Review of Dunkirk

I've seen the film Dunkirk - and it was a very good film.

The way the story followed three points of view of the famous event of the Second World War, from the air, sea and the beaches.  The work Christopher Nolan the director put into the film was brilliant.  One of the things that shocked me in the film was how fast most of the warships trying to help the trapped troops escape sank very quickly, with few survivors.

The ending with the survivors reading of Churchill's infamous speech and seeing a hero's welcome was a good one as it allows the audience to understand where the speech.  It's interesting to note that the actor James D'Arcy, who plays an army officer in the film, played Jock Colville in the 2009 film Into the Storm, which too gives Churchill's speech.

One funny scene was when D'Arcy's character talks to Kenneth Branagh's naval character, who is supervising the boats near a pier, about the timing of the tides.  D'Arcy's character says that he thought that the tides came in every six hours, not three, and Branagh's character says  "It's a good job I'm in the Navy, and you're in the Army."  I found the quote quite funny.

All in all, I'll say that the film was a very good one, and I forward to buying it on DVD when it comes out.

I hope that you'll come, see and enjoy at Eden Court.
