The Hobbit - The Battle of the Five Armies

The last film of the infamous The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien is due to come to Eden Court.

Directed by Peter Jackson (who directed the The Lord of the Rings (2001-3) and The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (2011), the third film of The Hobbit trilogy films, stars Martin Freeman (best known as Watson in BBC's Sherlock) plays the character Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit who finds himself in an adventure of a lifetime, with a little help from a wizard called Gandalf the Grey(played by Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf in Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy a decade ago), with a company of 13 dwarves under the leadership of Thorin Oakenshield (played by Richard Armitage, who has stared in BBC's Spooks and North & South, and has starred in other films such as Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)) all of whom are attempting to reclaim the Lonely Mountain where their home was taken by Smaug the dragon (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, best know as Sherlock Holmes in BBC's Sherlock, co-starring with Martin Freeman).  The film will star Luke Evans (who played Apollo in 2010's remake of The Clash of the Titans, Aramis in 2011's The Three Musketeers and 2014's Dracula Untold) as Bard the Bowman who reclaims his family's long-lost throne of Dale (which was destroyed by Smaug) and Orlando Bloom (Will Turner in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean) will return to reprise his breakthrough role as Legolas the elf

The film will begin where The Desolation of Smaug left off, when Smaug leaves the Lonely Mountain to attack the Lake-town.  The film will detail the events that will lead to the Battle of the Five Armies, the climax of Tolkien's book, with other links and connections to other works and notes by Tolkien.

  1. Have you seen this then Christopher? Do you get access to preview screenings?
I don't understand how they have taken such a short book and made it into such an epic of three films. If i was being cynical I could say it was all money driven.
